The Upazila chairman has been expelled from the Awami League for opposing the boat within the Belkuchi municipal elections in Sirajganj. Acting district Awami League president Hossain Ali Hasan confirmed the expulsion on Sunday (January 3rd), saying the choice was taken at a gathering at the district Awami League office on Saturday night. Nurul’s younger brother Sajjadul Haque Reza, an independent mayoral candidate within the municipal elections, has also been expelled.

District Awami League acting president Hossain Ali Hasan said the action was taken against the Awami League candidates after an investigation as they didn’t abide by the party’s decision.
The Awami League has expelled seven leaders, including Upazila Parishad Chairman Nurul Islam Sajedul, for taking a stand against the party’s candidate within the Belkuchi municipal elections in Sirajganj.
He said the expelled people have taken a stand against the assumption of the incumbent mayor Ashanur Biswas, the nominated candidate of Awami League, without abiding by the choice of the party. This action has been taken against them after investigation. He also said that an equivalent decision would be taken within the case of all those that would take a stand against the boat symbol.
Other expelled leaders are Azizul Haque Khan, joint secretary of the Upazila Awami League, Hazrat Ali, co-religious secretary, Shahjahan Ali Pramanik, acting president of the Belkuchi Municipal Awami League, Badr Uddin Mandal, vice-president and Habibur Rahman Habib, general secretary of the Upazila Krishak League.
The second round of municipal elections is going to be persisted on January 16 in Belkuchi. Awami League candidate Begum Ashanur Biswas (Nauka) and independent candidate Sajjadul Haque Reza (Coconut Tree) are contesting for the post of mayor.
42 candidates are contesting for the post of the commissioner and 16 candidates for the post of reserved women councilor. the amount of voters within the municipality is 53,343.
The Awami League has taken a troublesome stance from the very starting to suppress the party’s ‘rebel candidate’ within the ongoing municipal elections during a few steps. Strict organizational measures are being taken including the expulsion of rebel candidates from party posts.
The team also said that they’re going to not be ready to come to any position within the future.
