Like the first Padma bridge, the govt is getting to implement the second Padma bridge with its own funds. If all goes well, a final survey is going to be conducted before a subsequent budget to verify the feasibility of the bridge. At an equivalent time, the second Padma Bridge is going to be designed within the shortest possible time using the experience of the primary Padma Bridge.

Meanwhile, work on the much-discussed Padma Bridge is progressing at a quick pace. So far, 82 percent of the project has been completed. The physical progress of the work on the most bridge has been 91 percent. All spans are placed. which can function as one of the milestones of development. In the meantime, the discussion of the second Padma bridge has come to the fore. However, the initial decision to build the second Padma Bridge was made about 11 years ago. This time, the govt wants to finish the ultimate survey process of the second Padma Bridge project before the budget of the 2021-2022 financial year. The bridge department is functioning on a replacement development project proposal (DPP) as per the plan. Ministry sources said.
According to sources, the planet Bank and therefore the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have initially agreed to finance the project. However, no final judgment has been made on which agency the govt will choose because of the sole or co-financier. Taking into consideration that bitter experience, the govt is moving a touch slowly with the second Padma bridge. the govt doesn’t want to fall under any new unpleasant situation. albeit no financier comes forward voluntarily, the govt features a decision to implement the second Padma bridge with its own funds. If necessary, reserve money also can be used here. the govt also can move forward on the idea of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). the govt is moving forward leaving quite one possible option.
According to the source, China wants to be with the technical assistance within the implementation of the second Padma Bridge also because of the first Padma Bridge. The Bangladesh government has held preliminary discussions with the Chinese government during this regard. Earlier, JICA in its detailed survey identified four sites as convenient for the development of bridges over the river Padma. These are Paturia-Goaland, Dohar-Charbhadrasan, Mawa-Jajira, and Chandpur-Vedarganj. Among them, work is underway to implement the country’s largest Padma Multipurpose Bridge at Mawa-Jajira Point. If all goes well, the second Padma bridge is going to be at Paturia-Goaland point. If this bridge is made, the space of road communication between the capital Dhaka and Meherpur, Chuadanga, Kushtia, Jhenaidah, Magura, and Rajbari is going to be reduced. the space between parts of Gopalganj, Jessore, and Madaripur districts also will be reduced
Asked about this, Padma Bridge Project Director Shafiqul Islam told Bangladesh Pratidin that the primary Padma Bridge may be a big dream of the people and therefore the government. That has now become almost 100 percent real. the govt has been planning for the second Padma bridge for an extended time. it’ll even be a replacement dream project. it’s learned that the length of the proposed bridge is going to be 6.10 km. The estimated cost of the project is Tk 13,121.38 crore. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already approved the project proposal. At first, the value was estimated at a touch quite 10 thousand crores.
