A young woman named Ruhi (19) died at the Victim Support Center of Kotwali Police Station of Rangpur Metropolitan Police. Her body was recovered from inside the Victim Support Center at noon on Sunday (January 23) and sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Ruhi is the daughter of Sekendar Ali of Hariyarghat village under Harinakund police station in Jhenaidah district.
Police say Ruhi committed suicide by wrapping a scarf around her neck.
According to police and locals, Ruhi had a love affair with a boy named Akash from Ram Gobindmor area of Baharkachna in Ward 9 of Rangpur city. In March last year, the girl came from Jhenaidah to meet Akash. When the locals saw him wandering around, they called 999 and the police rescued him and took him to the Victim Support Center. He was later handed over to his relatives.
Then last Saturday (January 22) the girl came to meet Akash again. At one stage, Akash’s mobile phone was switched off and the girl started wandering in the area. Haragachha police rescued him and took him to the Victim Support Center at around 9:30 pm on Saturday.
While there, Ruhi committed suicide with a ceiling fan by wrapping a scarf around his neck on Sunday afternoon. His body was later recovered and sent to the morgue for autopsy.
Ruhi’s body was found in the forensic department of the hospital at 12 noon on Monday (January 24). An autopsy is underway. No relatives of Ruhi were found there.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rashid was called on his mobile phone to find out about the incident.
Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (DB & Media) Mohammad Sajjad Hossain said Ruhi had committed suicide. The body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy. News has been sent to relatives. When they arrive, the body will be handed over at the end of the legal process.
