BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the door to democracy and independence was opened in 1979 through a mass uprising. But even after half a century of independence, the native authoritarian dictatorship is still ruling like the colonial masters. People do not have civil liberties, human dignity, and the right to speak freely. The country is now going through a difficult time.

The BNP secretary general said this in a message on the occasion of the historic mass uprising (January 24) day on Saturday afternoon.
Mirza Fakhrul said the situation of mass uprising in the country is similar to that of 1969. We have to take to the streets with the disenfranchised people again. The chain of misrule of dictatorship must be broken. The day of the mass uprising is our source of inspiration for the protection of democracy and the fundamental rights of the citizens of the country.
