The Awami League is going to start expulsion activities from tomorrow to free the rebel candidates in the municipal elections. Today was the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers in the fourth phase of 57 municipal elections. As there is a single candidate in one of these municipalities, they are being elected without contest.

In the remaining 56 municipalities, there were 38 rebel candidates of the Awami League. Those rebel candidates were instructed by the organizing secretaries of their respective departments to withdraw their candidacies over the telephone. They were also informed that they would be expelled from the party if their candidature was not withdrawn by today in violation of party instructions.
According to Awami League sources, it will be known by Wednesday afternoon, who remained in the field as a rebel candidate in defiance of party instructions. Symbols will be allocated among the candidates tomorrow. The Awami League may announce the expulsion of those who did not withdraw their nomination papers today. An organizing secretary of the Awami League said, “No more concessions will be made in this regard.” The fourth round of voting will be held on February 14.
According to the Election Commission, there are 258 valid candidates for the post of mayor in 57 municipalities. He is being elected unopposed as there is a candidate for the post of mayor of Parashuram municipality of Feni. The other municipalities that voted on February 14 are; Thakurgaon Sadar and Rani Sankail, Naohata in Rajshahi, Tanore Godagari and Taherpur, Lalmonirhat Sadar and Patgram, Narsingdi Sadar and Madhabadi, Rajbari Sadar and Goalanda, Muladi and Banaripara in Barisal, Sherpur Sadar and Sreebardi, Bara in Chapainawabganj, Chapainawabganj Bandarban Sadar, Bagerhat Sadar, Satkhira Sadar, Chunarughat in Habiganj, Homna and Daud Kandi in Comilla, Satkania, Chandnaish and Patia in Chittagong, Bajitpur, Hossainpur and Karimganj in Kishoreganj, Gopalpur and Kalihati in Tangail, Kalapard in Patuakhali. Kachua and Faridganj in Chandpur, Netrokona Sadar in Madaripur, Rangamati Sadar in Jessore, Mir Kadim in Munshiganj, Melandah in Shariatpur, Fulpur in Mymensingh, Akkelraim in Joypur Hat. Kanaighat.
The 38 municipalities that have become rebel candidates are being expelled. According to Awami League sources, those who were rebel candidates in the first three rounds of elections will also be expelled.
