Awami League’s rebel councilor candidates aren’t heeding the Centre’s warning to withdraw from the Chittagong City Corporation elections. they’re in a stable position within the electoral field. Presidium member and former minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain has been given the responsibility to vary or reconsider the Awami League’s candidate for the post of councilor in several wards of the town. However, it’s been alleged that he’s not accepting any application of the candidates or rebel candidates in this regard.
Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif, joint secretary of the Awami League, said at a function in Chittagong on December 19 that organizational measures would be taken against those that would be candidates outside the Awami League-backed candidates and people who would work for the rebel candidates. F Kabir Manik of Bazar, SM Ershad Ullah of Rampura Ward No. 25, HM Sohail of South Agrabad Ward No. 27, Abdul Quader of Pathantuli Ward No. 28, Hasan Murad of Firingi Bazar Ward No. 33.
According to the concerned sources, ward Juba League leaders Anisur Rahman, Gias Uddin Jahed, and Nasir Uddin are contesting against the present councilor and Awami League-backed candidate Saifuddin Khaled Saifur in Chandgaon ward no. Their allegations, controversial within the Saifu area. During his five years as a councilor, various allegations were made against him. due to him, the image of the team has been tarnished. Despite all this, the local leaders and activists were surprised to ascertain him ignoring the views of the grassroots and giving him party support. Former councilor of Jalalabad ward No. 2 and Awami League leader Shahed Iqbal Babu told Jugantar that he wouldn’t withdraw from the fray.
