Abdul Quader Mirza, younger brother of the prominent mayor of Noakhali’s Basurhat municipality and younger brother of Road Transport and Bridges Minister, has been accused of violating the code of conduct in the UP elections this time by eight chairman candidates and Upazila Awami League-backed candidates. Seven UP chairman candidates of Companiganj Upazila lodged the written complaint at the Noakhali Deputy Commissioner’s Office and Superintendent of Police’s Office at noon on Wednesday.

According to the written complaint, Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza has been trying to force his followers to occupy the center illegally in the upcoming Union Parishad elections in seven unions. Abdul Quader Mirza is already intimidating activists, supporters, and ordinary voters with his terrorists and he is physically present in different wards of different unions. He is threatening many people on his mobile phone. As a result, there is extreme panic among the general voters.
It is further alleged in the complaint that Quader Mirza has violated the election code of conduct by appearing in various public relations with his people including the government vehicle of the municipality and his convoy and has been engaged in provocative statements and attempts to ruin the election environment.
As a result, there is a danger of organizing terrorist activities including riots in the elections to be held on February 7. In this context, Abdul Quader Mirza was asked to stop such provocative activities and take necessary steps to hold a free, fair, and impartial election by recovering illegal weapons from the armed terrorists in his convoy.
Candidates who have lodged written complaints are Mahbubur Rashid Monju, chairman candidate of Charparvati UP No. 2, Nazrul Islam Chowdhury Shahin, chairman candidate of Musapur UP, Abdur Razzak, candidate of Char Elahi UP No. 8, Sirajis Salekin Rimon, candidate of No. 6 Rampur UP, Haque Kachi, No. 1 Sirajpur UP candidate Main Uddin Mamun.
Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza repeatedly called on his mobile phone on Wednesday evening but did not receive the call. Therefore, it was not possible to know his statement.
Noakhali Deputy Commissioner Dewan Mahbubur Rahman said, “I have received the complaint. We have sent two executive magistrates to look into the matter, and the matter is being investigated. “
