Due to the prudence and foresight of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, all the doors of illegal seizure of power in Bangladesh have been closed. The 14th amendment to the constitution has been made in such a way that military intervention or illegal occupation of power has been identified as treason.

The 14th Amendment to the Constitution, inserted in Article 7(ko), states that ‘any person by force or by force or in any other unconstitutional manner:
(ko) repeals, repeals or abrogates or suspends this Constitution or any of its articles or attempts or conspires to do so or
(kh) in breach of the confidence, trust or conviction of the citizens in this Constitution or any of its provisions or in taking initiative or conspiracy to do so-
This act of his will be treason and that person will be guilty of the crime of treason.
Not only that, Article 7kh of the Constitution, including this provision, has declared some other provisions as provisions relating to the basic structure and has been recognized as ‘unenforceable by addition, change, substitution, repeal or in any other way’. In the post-75 period of assassination coup conspiracy in Bangladesh, military dictators first suspended the constitution when they came to power. Then, he ruled the country illegally with military decrees. Zia and Ershad held power in the same manner. Zia came to power illegally and changed the basic spirit of the constitution by calling it a temporary decree. Later, the 5th amendment gave legitimacy to all these invalid decrees. Ershad has also given legitimacy to all his illegal activities through the 8th amendment in the same manner. Although the Supreme Court of Bangladesh has declared the 5th Amendment invalid, the present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has protected the Constitution in such a way that no one can ‘suspend the Constitution’. If he does, he or that group will be identified as a traitor.
