Sheikh Hasina gave the directive at a meeting of the Awami League’s Local Government Representative Nomination Board at noon on Saturday (January 30).
This information came to light after talking to some members of the board at the end of the meeting. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s official residence Ganobhaban. The meeting was chaired by Awami League Local Government Representative Nomination Board President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
According to sources, the meeting discussed the Awami League’s rebel candidates and supporters of the rebels in the municipal elections. Besides, the issue of the internal quarrel of the party also came up in the meeting.
At that time, Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina instructed the eight central teams in charge of the party’s divisional level to inquire into these matters and collect information. He asked to take the news of all the places where municipal elections have already been held and where they will be held in the future.
He directed to collect detailed information on who has become a rebel candidate in some municipalities, who is helping them, who has gone beyond the party candidate, and who has taken a stand for the rebel candidate or who is ignoring the party’s decision. He asked the responsible leaders to take information on whether there is any central leader or member of parliament in the party.
Not only the rebel candidates but also those who go beyond the party’s decision to support the rebels or take a stand for them will not get any nomination from the party in the future. Awami League President Sheikh Hasina also said that strict organizational measures would be taken against them.
