The Upazila administration has issued section 144 to avoid clashes as leaders and activists of the Durduria Union Awami League and three other wards of the union have announced reciprocal conferences at the same place in Lalpur of Natore. Supporters of former Natore-1 (Lalpur-Bagatipara) MP Abul Kalam Azad and incumbent MP Shahidul Islam Bakul organized a reciprocal conference at the local Rampara School and College ground at 10 am on Wednesday (December 23).

Union Awami League president Naib Uddin Malitha convened the conference on behalf of MP Shahidul Islam Bakul and general secretary UP chairman Abdul Hannan on behalf of former MP Abul Kalam.
By miking at 8 pm on Tuesday (December 22), the administration informed the general public about the issuance of Section 144 in the entire union including the Rampara School and College grounds and the surrounding area.
It is learned that on Wednesday 23rd December at Rampara School and College ground the followers of the former and present Parliament convened a conference of the Union and Wards 7, 8, and 9 at the same time. As a result, panic and tension prevailed among the common people of Durduria Union of Lalpur Upazila and the leaders and workers of the Awami League.
Upazila Awami League president Aftab Hossain Jhulfu and secretary Upazila chairman Ishaq Ali took part in the meeting of the executive committee of the union Awami League on Tuesday afternoon. When the meeting ended, the opposition’s followers began to take position around the conference grounds. To avoid any untoward situation, Lalpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ummul Banin Duty issued Section 144 in the entire union from Wednesday morning till further orders.
Lalpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ummul Banin Dyuti said section 144 has been issued to avoid any conflict situation. Both sides have been kept under surveillance.
Lalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Selim Reza said the same.
Meanwhile, the current and former parliamentary groups have repeatedly complained about the convening of the conference.
Lalpur Upazila Awami League general secretary and Upazila chairman Isaac Ali said, “Parliamentary Shahidul Islam Bakul has influenced the administration to thwart our pre-arranged union Awami League conference.” His followers called a conference after us. The administration has issued section 144 for convening the conference at the same place. We strongly condemn the cancellation of this peace conference.
Parliamentarian Shahidul Islam Bakul said, “Central Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossain has repeatedly instructed us to hold a union conference after concluding the ward conference.” But the Upazila Awami League disobeyed that instruction and called a union conference instead of a ward conference. According to the central instructions, the ward Awami League organized a conference, and former parliamentarian Abul Kalam Azad and I were asked to stay there. The Upazila Awami League did not even inform me about the conference and disobeyed the instructions. I will not be able to take part in the anti-constitutional conference without going beyond the central guidelines. So I have learned that a ward conference has been convened under the leadership of the Union Awami League President and this is logical.
