Two Awami League leaders have been expelled from Barisal for allegedly plotting against the party’s mayoral candidate in the Banaripara municipal elections.

The decision to expel them was taken at a special extended meeting of the Upazila Awami League on Tuesday (February 2nd).
They are Rafiqul Islam, president of Awami League, ward 7 of Banaripara municipality, and Jahangir Hossain, president of Awami League, ward 3 of Baishari union of the Upazila.
Advocate Subhash Chandra Shil, legal secretary of Awami League and mayoral candidate of Banaripara municipality, AKM Yusuf Ali, vice president of Upazila Awami League, AKM Yusuf Ali and Khizir, vice president of Upazila Awami League presided over the meeting. And Mojibur Rahman, General Secretary Mawlad Hossain Chana, and Joint General Secretary Abdul Jalil Gharami among others were present. Rafiqul Islam, president of Awami League, ward 7, and Jahangir Hossain, president of Awami League, ward 3 of Baishari Union, were temporarily expelled from the party for engaging in a secret conspiracy against the party’s mayoral candidate.
Upazila Awami League general secretary Mawlad Hossain Chana said a letter had been sent to the Center to cancel their party members with a resolution of temporary expulsion.
Earlier, Ziaul Haque Mintu, the organizing secretary of the Upazila Awami League, and his three associate Awami League leaders were expelled from the party for being rebellious in the Banaripara municipal elections.
Apart from Awami League candidate Subhash Chandra Shil and Awami League rebel candidate Ziaul Haque Mintu, BNP’s Riaz Ahmed Mridha will contest the mayoral election on February 14.
