Two ministers accused of acting against the party’s interests and aiding rebel candidates in local government elections will be tried. Besides, there may be a discussion on whether the 20 district committees will be canceled or not. Several responsible sources of the Awami League have confirmed this information.
It is to be noted that for the last few days, there has been talking of infiltrators in the Awami League and spies from BNP-Jamaat. Awami League President Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina two years ago identified the infiltrators inside the Awami League and gave a list to the organizational secretaries to take action. But no action was taken according to that list. This time before the municipal elections, the Awami League president had clearly informed that action would be taken against those who would work against the discipline of the party and would-be candidates against the boat. Not only against them but also those who will help them will not be given boat symbols in the future. But despite this ban, there is an epidemic of rebel candidates in the Awami League this time.
Rebel candidates contested almost everywhere, and the Awami League’s organizing committee found that local MPs and ministers were behind the rebel candidates. As soon as the municipal elections were held, the organizing party of the Awami League conducted an inquiry into who were the rebel candidates in this election, how they became the rebel candidates, and who helped them and a report in this regard has already been handed over to the Awami League president. The report names 18 MPs who have fielded rebel candidates against party candidates in the municipal elections.
Among these 18 MPs, there are two ministers again. The two ministers have worked for the rebel candidate in defiance of the party’s ban and have also enlisted the help of the administration to win the rebel candidate. A responsible source of the Awami League says that Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will decide what kind of action will be taken against these 18 MPs and 2 ministers. The Awami League has already decided that a meeting of the Awami League’s executive committee will be held this month. That issue may be discussed in detail at that meeting.
However, an Awami League leader said that even if action is not taken against them now, it is almost certain that they will not get the boat symbol in the future. Local government elections have also shown that at least 20 district committees have acted against party candidates. They did this because the district committee did not nominate the preferred candidate. These committees may also be decided very soon. A source said that the committees which did not work for the party candidate will be immediately canceled and a new committee will be formed.
In the meantime, the committee presidents and general secretaries of at least 3 districts have been removed in the Awami League’s cleansing drive. Several Awami League sources also say that action will be taken in these 20 districts under that section. However, it is not only the local government elections that are taking the Awami League to a tough position. Multiple sources in the Awami League say that in recent times, some infiltrators have been creating unrest within the Awami League and putting the party in an awkward position through open disputes. And that is why if action is not taken now, it will be more harmful to the team in the future. And the Awami League is going to take action against those who are infiltrators, supporters of rebel candidates, and involved in anti-discipline activities of the party.
