The voting of 62 municipalities has ended in the third phase. Somewhere, the voters have been seen standing in a long and peaceful line to cast their votes. Voting takes place on Saturday (January 30) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The counting of votes then begins in the presence of agents of the candidates at the center.

BNP nominated candidates have been elected mayors in three municipalities. They are- Nazmul Haque Soni in Naogaon Municipality, Md. Gabtali in Bogra. Saiful Islam and Kahalu said. Abdul Mannan.
AGM Badshah, the rebel mayoral candidate of Awami League in Dhunte of Bogra, Abul Bashar Chokdar in Bhedarganj of Shariatpur, Md. Jajira. Idris Madbar, Mukitur Rahman Rafi in Gobindganj of Gaibandha, Saidur Rahman in Mundumala of Tanore Upazila of Rajshahi, Md. Golapganj in Sylhet. Aminul Islam and Abdul Ahad in Zakiganj, Shahiduzzaman Selim in Kotchandpur of Jhenaidah and Md. Chaumuhani of Begumganj Upazila of Noakhali. Khaled Saifullah has been elected mayor.
Besides, polling was held at a suspended center in Kishoreganj municipality on Saturday. Awami League candidate in the total votes with the results of the center. Pervez Mia has been re-elected, mayor.
In the third phase on Saturday, members of law enforcement agencies including Ansar, police, BGB, and RAB were deployed in each center to ensure fair and neutral voting in 62 municipalities. Although 64 municipalities were supposed to be elected in this phase, voting took place in 62 municipalities. In Laksam municipality, all the candidates including the mayoral post were elected unopposed and due to the death of the mayoral candidate in the municipality, polling was postponed in Mymensingh’s Trishal municipality and voting was held in 62 municipalities.

The last date for submission of nomination papers at this stage was 31st December, the last day for a selection of nominations was 3rd January and the last day for withdrawal of nominations was 10th January.
Earlier, on December 28, in the first phase, voting was held in 24 municipal elections of the country. Then, on January 16, the second phase of voting took place in 60 municipalities. The commission is conducting municipal elections in 5 stages this time in the coronavirus epidemic.
