The expelled leaders are Rabiul Alam, general secretary of Godagari Municipal Awami League, MA Shaheen, organizing secretary, Tariqul Islam Hoda, and Monirul Islam Babu and Mojibur Rahman.
Recommendations have been sent to the district and center for life expulsion of the five leaders from the party, said Godagari Municipal Awami League president and mayoral candidate Ayaz Uddin Biswas.
The statement said Monirul had become a “rebel candidate” against Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s nominee for mayor, Ayez Uddin Biswas. Four other leaders of the municipal Awami League are campaigning for his support. As a result, confusion has spread among the leaders and workers. This has broken the organizational discipline within the party.
Although Monirul and others were verbally requested to withdraw their candidacies and work for Sheikh Hasina’s nominee, they did not comply with the request. As a result, at the meeting of the executive committee of Godagari Municipal Awami League on January 27, it was unanimously decided to expel the rebel candidate and his associate leaders from the party.
