After the meeting of the committee (EC) on Sunday (November 29), the senior secretary of the EC said. Alamgir. a gathering of the commission was held under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda.
This time the commission wants to carry municipal elections in four steps within the Corona situation. within the first phase, EVM elections are going to be persisted on December 28 in 25 municipalities. Of the country’s 329 municipalities, about 160 more will attend the polls in February.
For this purpose, the voting schedule of the second phase municipalities could also be given in the week. The secretary said it might not be possible to choose EVMs altogether in the municipalities considering the capacity, availability, trained people, and technical issues.
Alamgir said the commission meeting had decided to carry elections in 189 municipalities in three stages. The second round of voting is in mid-January, the third round of voting is at the top of January. The fourth round of voting will happen in mid-February.
He said EVM voting is going to be held in about 30 municipalities at each stage. the remainder is going to be voted on by ballot. because it is winter, voting is going to be held from 8 am to 4 pm. The schedule for the second phase is going to be very soon. The schedule is going to be given as long as the work plan is approved by the commission. within the remaining municipalities, a minimum of 60 municipalities are going to be scheduled at each step, the secretary said.
