Speaking at a news conference at his range in Banani on Saturday (December 19th), Hafeez said the method of sending a show-cause notice through Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in response to the show was a violation of protocol and courtesy. At an equivalent time, Hafeez described the letter as “offensive” and “disrespectful” and contained false allegations.
Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed alleged that each one of the allegations brought against him within the notice was false. Hafiz Uddin Ahmed also recommended the formation of a committee through the party’s national council by 2021.
He also denied allegations of inactivity within the party’s organizational activities and said that he wasn’t invited to any party function organized with the liberty fighters. At that point, he complained that a neighborhood within the party was always active in cornering the liberty fighters.
In a written statement in response to the show-cause notice, he said, “I am a war-wounded, awarded insurgent. I even have been involved in BNP politics for the last 29 years, the date of my joining, the date of my appointment as president, many mistakes including spelling of my name are visible within the letter signed by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
“Before joining the BNP, I used to be elected MP 3 times,” he said. I joined the BNP in 1991 as an independent candidate after winning the parliamentary elections. I even have been one of the vice-chairmen of the party for the last 22 years. I’m deeply insulted that a joint Secretary-General (even if not ordered) has summoned the party’s president to apologize in such harsh, offensive language. There are deviations from protocol and courtesy. Person Ruhul Kabir Rizvi may be a polite, devoted, and selfless leader, with whom I even have an honest relationship, I didn’t expect such a letter from him.
Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed then answered each of the 11 allegations against him through his written statement. In reply, he stated his political position during the one-eleven period, at his request, the controversial army officials barred 105 BNP MPs from joining the Ferdous Quraishi-led Kings Party.
Hafeez said in his reply that he didn’t divide the party by declaring himself secretary-general during the military-backed caretaker government but had met the secretary-general Khandaker Delwar Hossain quite once and asked the army authorities to make a decision what to try to and convey BNP to power.
In addition to answering the allegations against him, the BNP vice-chairman also alleged that nominations and committees were being traded within the party. He also recommended taking organizational measures against corrupt leaders and workers.
He said, ‘There are allegations of committee trade and quality trade at various levels of the party. The matter should be investigated by a committee headed by a senior member of the party’s committee and a report of the council meeting should be submitted. altogether future elections, one person should be nominated as a candidate and one as an alternate candidate. this may reduce the opportunities for nomination trade.
Hafeez said if any allegation of corruption was raised against any member of the party, organizational action should be taken against them after investigation. Only then will the soul of honest, unselfish, great leader Shaheed Ziaur Rahman find peace.
In the end, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed requested to present his statement before the members of the committee and said, “If I’m found guilty of my statement, I’m able to take any punishment.”
