On Monday (February 1), just six months after taking office, Sujan stepped down and handed over the administration to Kazi Mozammel Haque, the city corporation’s chief executive officer. Newly elected mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury will take charge of him for five years.
A statement from the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives said, “Kazi Muhammad Mozammel Haque, the chief executive officer of the city corporation, will fulfill his vital and financial responsibilities until the elected council assumes office in the January 27 city corporation elections.”
Khorshed Alam Sujan, vice-president of Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League, took charge as the administrator of Chittagong City Corporation on August 5 last year.
Due to the coronavirus situation, the Chasik election was not held on time and an administrator was appointed in this important body.
