Voting for the Chittagong City Corporation election has ended. The counting is going on now. A total of 735 centers. Of these, the results of 62 centers were found to be unsupported.

Awami League mayoral candidate M. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury is leading with 21,563 votes with the boat symbol. His closest rival, the BNP mayoral candidate. Shahadat Hossain got 1,908 votes with the symbol of paddy.
Earlier, voting in the Chittagong City Corporation elections ended amid sporadic violence. Voting starts at 8 am on Wednesday (January 27) and continues until 4 pm.
Allegations of various irregularities including open firing, chase-counter chase, clash-violence, loss of life, vandalism of electronic voting machine (EVM), boycotts were taken to occupy the polling station in the election.
Despite allegations of irregularities in the election by the BNP, the ruling Awami League is calling the vote festive. Electoral officials also say the vote was peaceful.
There are 226 candidates for the posts of the mayor of Chittagong city and councilors and reserved women councilors in 41 wards. Of these, 169 candidates contested for the post of general councilor in 39 wards. The election is not being held in the remaining two wards due to special reasons including the death of the candidate. In 14 reserved wards, 57 people contested for the post of women councilors.
There were seven candidates for the post of mayor. They are- Awami League’s Rezaul Karim Chowdhury as the boat symbol, BNP’s Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Abul Manzoor of National People’s Party with mango symbol, MA Matin of Bangladesh Islamic Front with candle symbol, Khokon Chowdhury with independent candidate elephant symbol, Muhammad Waheed Murad of Islamic Front Bangladesh with chair symbol and Md. Mohammad of Islamic Movement Bangladesh with hand fan symbol. Jannatul Islam.
The total number of voters in this election is 19 lakh, 38 thousand 706 people.
