Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader have said that the work of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Tunnel to be constructed on the river at Karnafuli in Chittagong has been completed 61 percent. He said this while inaugurating the second tube excavation work of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Tunnel on Saturday. The Minister joined the function via video conference from his official residence.

The Minister for Road Transport and Bridges said the excavation work of the second tube of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Tunnel under construction at a price of Taka 10,400 crore has started from Saturday. So far, 61 percent of the project has been completed.
He said, “This tunnel under construction at rock bottom of Karnafuli river is that the first tunnel under the river of South Asia.” – a contemporary communication system is going to be developed between Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar and a connection are going to be established with the Asian Highway.
Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam, Secretary of the Bridges Department were also present on the occasion. Belayet Hossain, Project Director Harun Ur Rashid and other officials of the project and members of the Navy and people’s representatives.
