The National Council of Bangladesh Awami League was held on 20 December 2019. According to that calculation, the party is expected to have a new council by the end of this year. But since the term of Mujib has been extended till next December, the Awami League said that the party council could be formed at the beginning of 2022.

But in recent times, in the wake of various incidents, controversies, and the breakdown of the party’s chain of command, rumors have started circulating about the Awami League’s advance council. At least two Awami League leaders have said, “Once the Corona situation is under control and the local government elections are over, the president of the party may suddenly call for an Awami League council.” Several top leaders of the Awami League feel that there is no alternative to a new council to restore order in the party.
Moreover, the demand for a ‘full-time general secretary’ within the party is becoming increasingly strong. A number of Awami League leaders told Bangla Insider that “a full-time general secretary is needed to take care of such a large organization, the activities of committees across the country, its organs, and affiliated organizations.” They are giving more time to the organization. The staff is getting them all the time. Senior Awami League leaders have been annoyed by the recent mudslinging of some Awami League leaders. The party’s policymakers are also worried about rebel candidates in local elections. The Awami League’s infighting has spread from district to district. And if all these things are combined, it can be said that the chain of command of the Awami League has broken. The only place of hope for the party is President Sheikh Hasina. But he is not being cooperated.
A source in the Awami League said that the opposition of the party’s general secretary Obaidul Quader was the main voice of the new council. Its main goal is to corner Obaidul Quader in the team.
