The agitating students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology are being used for political purposes, said Awami League Joint-General Secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hassan Mahmud.

He made the remarks at a briefing on contemporary issues in the meeting room of the Information Ministry at the Secretariat on Monday (January 24).
Regarding the Shabiprabi students’ movement, he said, “University students are like our children and grandchildren.” The government is sympathetic to their demands. We also made a movement with various demands while we were in the university. I myself have been agitating for the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor while doing student politics. We also staged a sit-in in front of the VC’s residence, I did it myself. But we never disconnected the electricity from the house.
He said, “Today I heard that water is not being allowed to enter the VC’s bungalow, food was sent for VC, even that food is not being allowed to enter.” See, the prisoners in the jail also get food and water. He cannot be deprived of them. When these are spoken of as movements, they cannot be called movements. I would urge the students: shutting down the news, cutting off the power supply to the VC’s bungalow or on-campus, or trying to cut off the connection cannot be part of the movement, it cannot be part of the movement. These are vindictive.
“I urge the students not to use them as political puppets,” he said. The government has the news that those who have political motives there are trying to use the students for political purposes. Many are being used without understanding. Since the Ministry of Education is looking into the matter, I hope very soon there will be a logical solution
