Four leaders, including two BNP councilor candidates, are accused of taking money from Awami League councilor candidates to withdraw from the upcoming elections within the Santahar municipality of Bogra’s Adamdighi Upazila. The Awami League candidate is becoming a councilor without contest. The incident has caused anger among the leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliates.

In this incident, Santahar Municipal BNP has made a written recommendation to the district committee to expel them from their organization. District BNP convener Golam Mohammad Siraj MP and joint convener Advocate AKM Saiful Islam protested on Thursday (December 24th).
The four accused are Zahidul Islam, a member of Santahar Municipal BNP convening committee, and Mahamudul Alam, a member of Municipal Juba Dal, Mamunur Rashid, a former president of Municipal Juba Dal, and Mahfuzul Haque, a member of Adamdighi Upazila BNP convening committee.
It has been mentioned within the letter signed by Santahar Municipal BNP convener Mojibur Rahman and joint convener Rafiqul Islam that the election of Santahar municipality is going to be persisted January 16 within the second phase by EVM system. Municipal BNP leader Zahidul Islam and municipal Juba Dal leader Mahamudul Alam collected party nomination papers to contest for the post of councilor in ward no.
Abdul Quddus is that the only Awami League candidate here. the 2 BNP-nominated councilor candidates took money from Awami League candidate Quddus together with Juba Dal leader Mamunur Rashid and BNP leader Mahfuzul Haque. For this reason, the 2 candidates abstained from submitting their nominations on December 20. As a result, Awami League candidate Abdul Quddus is being elected unopposed as a councilor in ward no. 7 of Santahar municipality.
An emergency meeting of Santahar Municipal BNP was persisted December 21 during this regard. At that meeting, it had been unanimously decided to expel four leaders, including the 2 councilor candidates. A letter with recommendations has been sent to the district BNP leaders.
Bogra district BNP joint convener Fazlul Bari Talukder Belal confirmed the incident, saying four leaders, including two councilor candidates, had been protested. If they are doing not give the right answer, the choice to expel them from the organization is going to be taken.
